Review of Scent of Magic

Title: Scent of Magic
Author: Maria V Snyder
Series: Avry of Kazan (Book 2)

As the last healer in the 15 realms, Avry of Kazan is in a unique position: in the minds of her friends and foes alike, she no longer exists. Despite her need to prevent the megalomanical King Tohon from winning control of the Realms, Avry is also determined to find her sister and repair their estrangement. And she must do it alone, as Kerrick, her partner and sole confident, returns to Alfa to summon his country into battle.

Though she should be in hiding, Avry will do whatever she can to support Tohon's opponents. Including infiltrating a holy army, evading maic sniffers, teaching forest skills to soldiers and figuring out how to stop Tohon's most horrible creations yet; an army of the walking dead - human and animal alike and nearly impossible to defeat.

War is coming and Avry is alone. Unless she figures out how to do the impossible... again.

My Review:

I have been desperate for this book for ages and am so glad that it was approved on NetGalley, but then it wouldn't work! :( But... I finally managed to open this the other day and started reading! WOW! Is all I can say!
This book picks up right where the last book ended, as soon as I started reading I found that the memories of the last book came flooding back to me!

Everyone believes that Avry is dead, but, instead of hiding away she is determined to bring down Tohon's army, while Kerrick sets off on his own mission.

There's lots of returning characters and some new ones too. I liked the return of Danny and Zila and Danny definitely plays a bigger role.

Once you start reading this book you are taken into a completely different land of magic, mystery and intrigue - you never knew what was coming round the corner. There isn't as much romance as there is in the last book but you could feel the connection between Avry and Kerrick throughout the pages.

There is plenty of twists and turns throughout this book to keep you guessing and I strongly reccomend that you read the first book (Touch of Power), you won't be disappointed - trust me!
